Science Stop Animation Movies

This week in Mrs. Nutter and Mrs. Suman's class we will be starting science stop animation movies. Stop animation is when you take a bunch of pictures of something and in every picture you take you move what you are taking a picture of just a little bit. You can do this by drawing, using paper, clay, yarn... basically anything. Once you have all your pictures taken you put them together in a movie project and show each picture for a fraction of a second. The objects look like they are moving when you do this. It's just like an animation flip book but on the computer.

Here are some tips to make your movie awesome.

Plan, plan, plan!!! Plan out what your movie is going to be about, what you are going to use, what scenes you will have, what you will say (the script), titles you might show, music or sound effects. Plan everything out before you start taking your pictures. The better your plan, the better your movie.

Use a tripod! To get the animation effect, you need to use a tripod. For each scene the tripod needs to stay perfectly still.

Be creative! Think out of the box. Make your movie unique.

Here is a really well done stop animation video I found on YouTube. Notice all the different stuff they use, play dough, paper, string.

Here is another one...

Here is another video using stop motion animation. It's not about science, but it's a cool Skittles Commercial.
