IT’s happening:

Teachers Corner

Ms. Indrani's students uses Socrative to measure the effectiveness of their teaching
======================================================================

Ms. Indrani’s High School Economics class was assigned the Market Structures Project.  The class was divided into four groups.  Each group chose a specific structure (Pure Competition, Monopolistic Competition, Oligopoly or Monopoly) to research, learn and teach the rest of the class.  As a part of this project, the students were required to make an assessment to measure the effectiveness of their instruction.
Room No: 812829

Our group (Arjun, Minhee, Chaitra, Riya) was assigned the topic of pure competition to present to our economic class. We were encouraged by Ms. Indrani and Ms. Geetha to use new technology that would aid our presentation, and hence we decided to use Socrative, a quiz-making software. Socrative allows you to create quizzes, where students can answer questions individually through using the room number. It allows teachers to track the progress as each student answers a question, and also pace the quiz. We thought a quiz would be interesting and engaging for the class, and it would also help them in understanding the key components of pure competition.

Mr. Meyers Classes use Chat and Discussion Forums to Share Their Ideas
==============================================================
Mr. Thomas Meyers

A major focus for me this year has been to promote the use of technology in the development of students’ writing.  By using Chat and Discussion Forums, I have tried to encourage students to share their ideas when in the process of developing a thesis statement and categories of evidence.  Despite initial technical glitches and student resistance, progress is being made getting students to collaborate with the essay writing process.  With persistence the use of IT in the writing process is an effective tool  in the acquisition and organization of ideas, a key skill for all twenty-first century learners.

Formation of a Book Club & Use of blog for communication and reflection
==============================================================
Mr. Widi Sumaryono

We plan to start the first round of the Book Club right after this spring break. There will be ten participants, who will meet on Wednesdays from 7:45 to 8:15 in the Breeze Way Conference room starting April 10. We will discuss a book by Rick Wormeli, "Fair Isn't Always Equal" and use a blog as a mean of communication and reflection.

Here is the link of the blog; http://aiscbookclub.blogspot.in/

Please feel free to participate in blogging by writing comments, if you have any questions, opinions or just check the flow of the study.

Student Speak.....
By Amelia J Holly, Dafne Mistrangelo, Madeleine A Holly

On the 19th, we helped Ms. Lakshmi, Ms. Geetha, and Mr. McCandless to present the ILearn IT course we have taken this quarter to the parents.

For the presentation, we prepared a short PowerPoint briefly explaining how we felt about the new unit, and what we were learning from it. The idea of this PowerPoint was to give a student’s perspective on the project’s concept and teachings.

We presented our PowerPoint to the parents on the course. We were confronted with many questions about the course, but we did our best to answer these. It was interesting hearing their questions and I hope they found our answers helpful. We enjoyed the sense of having helped to promote and describe the course to the parents.

Have a wonderful Spring Break!
